The weather might be unpredictable in Northern Ireland - but at least you're always guaranteed a great bargain in the summer sales.

It's only the start of July so the high street is still brimming with offers galore for savvy shoppers lucky enough to be escaping to sunnier climes.

But even if you're staying put this year, the good news is that it won't cost the earth to refresh your wardrobe, with shops slashing as much as 70% off key items.

Among the big names already dishing out discounts in their Belfast stores are M&S, Zara, River Island, New Look, H&M, Miss Selfridge, Gap and Office.

And so are a range of other retailers including Body Shop, Pandora, Shop Disney, Office, Paperchase, Topshop, Topman, Cath Kidson, Joules and Mothercare.

The much-anticipated Next sale is hotly tipped to start this Saturday, bringing a bargain bonanza to loyal customers who've waited all year for the signature event which sometimes sees 90% knocked off original prices.

It's a significant date in the annual retail calendar and it means the holiday sales period is in full swing.

A huge swathe of smaller outlets have, however, also been joining in the summer discounting frenzy to try and counteract a steady drop in the number of people hitting the shops as they opt to go online instead.
