There are plenty of products available to soothe those with dry skin
If Google searches are anything to go by, dry skin in winter is a top concern, with searches up by 70%.
“You may notice that your skin starts to feel different as the outside temperatures cool and the central heating turns on, so it’s important to commit to a harder working skin care routine,” says Dr Lauren Hamilton, cosmetic doctor and co-founder of skin clinic, Victor & Garth.
Colder weather, wind and central heating will all contribute to drying your skin as these factors lead to increased transepidermal water loss.
She suggests using Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). “These are great exfoliants that help to remove any dead cells in the outermost layer of the skin. This will improve and brighten a dull appearance and allow any hydrating ingredients that you apply, to properly penetrate the layers of skin.
“As well as AHAs, try to use a products that contains ceramides as these will help to repair your skin’s barrier by locking in moisture.
“You should aim for healthy skin that you want to show off all year round, so to maintain glow through the winter, apply a vitamin C product daily.
“It’s a powerful antioxidant which prevents oxidative damage by binding to the free radicals caused by pollution and UV radiation (which is still present throughout the darker months).”
