'A massage is hard to beat but getting spare time can be difficult with four kids'

Me & My Health: Shauna McCarney-Blair

By Helen Carson

The 36-year-old business owner is managing director of Co Tyrone-based award-winning healthy baby and toddler snacking company Heavenly Tasty Organics, which has just won a £2m deal to supply major UK supermarkets. Shauna lives in Seskinore with husband James Blair and her four children, Joe McCarney (11), Cara McCarney (10), Elsa Blair (2) and Lily Blair (10 weeks).

Do you take regular exercise - and if so what?

Having just had my fourth child 10 weeks ago, I am trying to let my body recover fully before getting back into full-on exercise. However, I do try and get out for a daily walk in the fresh air - it works wonders at waking you up after a sleepless night.

What's been the worse illness you have had?

Thankfully, I'm quite a healthy person and so don't tend to have many illnesses. During my last pregnancy, though, I did suffer terrible hyperemisis (extreme form of morning sickness) and needed to go into hospital for treatment. I suffered with it for eight weeks and it felt like a lifetime. For someone who loves their food, being so sick all the time was awful. I sympathise with any woman who goes through it.

How healthy is your diet?

Like most people, I try to eat as well as possible. I love superfood salads and eat raw foods where possible. I love my food and so don't deny myself anything.

Any bad habits?

Chocolate - which I love and will never turn down.

Do you drink and/or smoke - and if so how much?

I don't smoke at all. While I like the odd glass of wine or Prosecco, since having the kids my body really can't tolerate any amount of alcohol. Although I miss being able to enjoy a few glasses of wine, I'm not that bothered and am happy to wait until my body recovers.

Do you take any health supplements?

When I was pregnant I took multivitamins, so I'm just getting back to my usual routine of supplements ,which includes a multivitamin, B-vitamins, Magnesium and fish oils.

How do you take time out?

It's hard to beat a massage treatment once in a while, although getting spare time sometimes can be a little difficult with four kids. So when I do get some time out, I really appreciate it.

How well do you sleep?

Ah well, at the moment if I'm allowed to... I sleep really well as I'm so exhausted all the time, as any parent of young children will know. If I get six to seven hours a night at the minute it's great.

Do you worry about getting old?

If I am honest, it has never crossed my mind to worry about ageing. However, I do notice the years going by faster and faster, and life just seems to be getting busier as time goes on.

What is your go-to product/habit that keeps you feeling healthy?

A good walk in the fresh air - it really works at refreshing the mind as well as the body.
