All the best: Belfast Giants captain Adam Keefe on his favourite things

By Kerry McKittrick

The 32-year-old, originally from Ontario, Canada, is captain of the Belfast Giants ice hockey team. He lives in Belfast with his girlfriend Colleen.

My best moment

On the ice - and as long as I've been in Belfast it's all the European Ice Hockey League games. It's the reason I keep coming back to the Giants since my first season.

My best song

Under The Bridge by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It's been my favourite for as long as I can remember and I've been to see the band play a few times. I wasn't too impressed with the first concert, though, because they didn't play that song.

My best way to relax

Watching movies or a good TV box set, some snacks and my couch. The night before a game, in particular, I like to be at home chilling out. Sitting around a campfire with friends is also fun, and if someone has a guitar to play it's even better.

My best job

I was an oyster shucker for a few summers when the hockey season was off. It was always at a party or a golf tournament and it was really good fun. But being an ice hockey player is a dream job for me as I grew up playing it. The scary thought is that it has to come to an end at some point and I have to accept there needs to be a life after ice hockey. As long as I'm doing it, though, there's nothing like it and I love the jokes, laughter and camaraderie of the locker room.

My best advice

When I was playing hockey in the Junior League in Canada - from the age of 15 to 20 - older players told me that I should enjoy myself, not just at hockey but at life in general. After 12 years as a professional hockey player I wish I had taken that advice a bit more.

My best gift

My girlfriend hired a boat on Lough Erne in Co Fermanagh for my 30th birthday. We travelled through Enniskillen and visited all the little islands in between. We had such a good time and I now recommend it to all my team-mates.

My best achievement

Buying my first home at the end of the last season. Belfast is home now and I vacation to Canada.

My best buy

A Dodge Durango truck which I bought in my second year playing professional hockey which has lasted for years.

My best movie

Primal Fear with Edward Norton. - it's a psychological thriller and he's brilliant in it.

My best book

Bear Grylls' autobiography Mud, Sweat and Tears. It's very inspirational to read all the struggles he's been through.
