All the best: Katherine Farries on her favourite things

By Kerry McKittrick

The 27-year-old is the newest personal stylist at Victoria Square, Belfast, and has also worked in the costume and design departments of the film Dracula Untold and TV show Game of Thrones. She lives in Belfast with her boyfriend Michael Kearney.

My best moment

It was being with my sister Jennifer when she gave birth to her son. It was a wonderful experience, very calm and peaceful, which I wasn’t expecting. That was four years ago and it’s been brilliant being involved in Angelo’s life since the minute he was born.

My best song

It’s a song that my dad used to sing to me. It’s called Honey, and the original version was by Bobby Goldsboro. I wouldn’t go to bed when I was a child until my dad would put it on and dance with me.

My best way to relax

I really enjoy yoga flow, which is done in a heated room. I don’t get to go as often as I’d like, so it’s been more like twice a month instead of twice a week recently.

My best advice

My mother had seven children and was very wise. She had simple advice, though — once, about food, she told me “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips”.

My best job

I’m really loving the one I’m doing now. I’m enjoying the freedom to choose when I work and how I work. In Game of Thrones and Dracula Untold, starring Luke Evans I had to abide by specific design briefs, whereas working with clients means that everyone is different.

My best gift

I went to Cambodia with my boyfriend Michael and we lost track of time, as you do on holiday, so we forgot it was my birthday. Michael sent me to a spa and when I came back he opened the wardrobe to reveal not one but two dresses he’d bought me. He’d asked the girls in the shop to try them on so that he could be sure about them. It was very thoughtful and brave of him to buy them by himself.

My best achievement

Coming to Northern Ireland from my home in England and getting my first big opportunity to work in film on Dracula Untold. I heard it was going to be filming here and one day I saw a production van with Dracula Untold on the side. I jumped in front of the van and refused to move until the driver gave me an email address for the production company so I could ask for work. I eventually landed the job.

My best buy

I bought a pair of maternity leggings in H&M for £12. It sounds odd because I’m not pregnant but they have an elasticated waist that goes right up to the bra line so they don’t cut you off. They’re also really comfortable. They’re great for “fat” days because they suck everything in. They’re like big knickers, only in legging form.

My best book

I love the Harry Potter books because they’re simple to read but have a great story. I’m into hocus pocus stuff like that anyway.

My best film

It’s a choice between Walk the Line, the biopic of Johnny Cash, starring Joaquin Phoenix, and Frozen, which is a little embarrassing. I’m an absolute romantic when it comes to films. I am a bit of a film buff — I probably go to the cinema more than I do yoga.
