All the best: Whiskey Ambassador Joe Magowan

The 25-year-old, who lives in Belfast, is Powers Whiskey Ambassador. When the post was first advertised it was billed as the best job in Northern Ireland.

My best moment

Landing the job I have now. I was ecstatic to find out that I’d got it and the last year has been a dream. It’s a new post so there hasn’t been anyone before me and I’m able to make it my own. I never get bored.

My best song

I’m a heavy metal fan and like to collect records and go to a lot of gigs. At the moment I’m listening to a lot of Van Halen’s Jump — it’s good summer music.

My best movie

Alien. I’m a huge fan of science fiction and horror movies, so the Ripley Scott classic combines both genres to great effect.

My best way to relax

Walking my dog — I have an 11-year-old springer spaniel called Molly. She lives with my parents but I call over every day or two and take her out for a jaunt.

My best job

Without a doubt this one, but I also loved my previous job at the Vineyard Wine Shop on the Ormeau Road in Belfast. I was there for nearly 10 years and made a lot of friends. Now, I spend quite a lot of time in the shop as a customer. What I learned there led to my current career.

My best advice

To take every opportunity you can. If someone lends me a book I can learn from I will always read it. While it’s not advice which was given to me — when someone asks me how I got my job I tell them how I built up my knowledge in every way possible. Fortunately it paid off.

My best gift

My brother gave me a home-brewing kit for my 18th birthday. That’s what sparked off my interest in beer, which eventually lead to my enthusiasm for whiskey. Had I not got that I probably wouldn’t be doing what I am now.

My best achievement

Graduating with a 2:1 degree in photography from the Ulster University. I use the knowledge I gained from it all the time.

My best buy

A Richoh GR camera I bought about four years ago which I carry with me every day as I’m still passionate about photography. It almost broke recently and if it did I would buy the exact same camera again because I love it so much.

My best book

I was given the Irish Whiskey Academy book when I was at the Irish Whiskey Academy which I had signed by all of the masters at the distillery. If I could frame it I would — it’s a permanent fixture on my shelf. A recent read was Born To Run by Christopher McDougall which is about ultra marathon runners and the tribes that are supposed to be the best runners in the world.
