Angelic Alison winging her way to Belfast

By Eddie McIlwaine

I wonder if Alison Moyet, who will be playing the Ulster Hall in Belfast this coming autumn, will remember how I once told her that she looked like an angel?

It happened one night backstage at Wembley, when the singer-songwriter was dressed in a gown which looked very like the one she is wearing in my picture today.

Alison - nicknamed Alf, which is also the name of her debut album - did, indeed, have an angelic look about her that evening at a charity concert four years ago. Perhaps she will take to the stage in Belfast on Sunday, October 29 in that very dress.

Believe it or not, Alison, who has had hits with All Cried Out, Love Letters, Whispering Your Name and Is This Love?, once trained as a piano tuner. Since those early days, the former Yazoo singer, from Essex, has appeared in Chicago as Matron Mama Morton and once toured in a play called Smaller.

Never mind all that, I'm looking forward to the angelic Alison at the Ulster Hall - hopefully in that gown.
