Better Watch Out: Teen babysitter’s holiday horror covers familiar ground

By Damon Smith

A babysitter endures a Christmas from hell in an Australian horror-comedy directed by Chris Peckover.

Seventeen-year-old Ashley (Olivia DeJonge) spends part of her festive holidays looking after a precocious 12-year-old called Luke Lerner (Levi Miller), who clearly has a crush on her.

She texts her boyfriend Ricky (Aleks Mikic) then settles down to watch a horror film with Levi, who makes a clumsy attempt at a pass, which Ashley brushes off.

Soon after, Luke's best friend Garrett (Ed Oxenbould) arrives at the house and the youngsters discover a brick on the upstairs floor, which bears the chilling words 'Leave And U Die'.

Ashley is suspicious that she might be the victim of a prank but, when an unseen sniper begins to take shots at the house, the babysitter takes cover in the attic. The shooter enters the house and the teenager finds herself in a brutal battle for survival that will test her courage and resolve to the limit.
