Brandon presses all the right buttons for a good old hoedown

By Eddie McIlwaine

Even the politicians in his homeland like the sound and style of button-key accordionist Brandon McPhee (20), a native of Caithness.

When he played at the opening of the Scottish Parliament a while back, Brandon's version of The Bluebell Polka earned him an ovation from all sides of the House.

Now the young musician, who has his own television programme back home, is returning to Northern Ireland where he created a stir several months ago.

And this time he will be bringing the Jimmy Shand Shield with him which he won in a competition at Perth.

Brandon will be playing Scottish and hoedown tunes at the Dunadry Inn, Templepatrick on Wednesday, March 22 (7.30pm), at an event being promoted by veteran Antrim councillor Mervyn Rea.
