Fews Ensemble, Warrenpoint Town Hall - Thursday, 8pm
Next Thursday, May 24, Newry Chamber Music presents a concert of chamber music masterpieces for strings and woodwind performed by the Fews Ensemble.
Led by Joanne Quigley McParland, the Fews is Ireland’s newest professional classical music group and Newry Chamber Music’s resident ensemble. There are only two works on the programme but ones which you won’t often get a chance to hear live.
Beethoven’s energetic Septet in E flat major, Op 20, dating from 1799, is one of the last works he composed before becoming aware of his encroaching deafness.
Schubert’s Octet in F major, D 803, was commissioned in 1824 by the renowned clarinettist Ferdinand Troyer. He wanted Schubert to produce a work similar to Beethoven’s Septet. The instrumentation is almost identical to the Beethoven, with the addition of another violin part.
Tickets cost £15/£5 at the door or at www.newrychambermusic.com.
