Cool FM presenter Rebecca McKinney on her healthy habits

By Helen Carson

The 29-year-old, who presents the Cool FM Breakfast show with co-hosts Pete Snodden and Paulo Ross, is currently single and lives in east Belfast.

Do you take regular exercise - and if so, how much?

Yes, I go to Power Plate sessions a few times a week as I find these really work for me. I have been exercising this way for a year and a half now and it is a really good workout, which is brilliant for toning. I am definitely more focused when I have someone shouting at me and telling me that I need to push myself when it comes to exercise.

What's been the worst illness you have had?

I have been pretty lucky - so I hope I don't jinx myself by saying I haven't really ever had anything serious happen to me, health-wise.

How healthy is your diet?

I do try to have a healthy diet, but I have such a sweet tooth. Pete and Paulo on the Breakfast show are constantly making fun of me for bringing sweets, like a big bag of Minstrels, into work. Anything with sugar is my downfall.

Any bad habits?

As I am up at 4.30am, sometimes it is tempting to skip breakfast, but I don't. I will force myself to eat a bowl of porridge, as it will keep me going until 10am. I used to snack late in the evening, but, again, because of my job, I have had to stop doing that - which is better for me, too.

Do you drink and/or smoke - and if so how much?

I don't smoke and I am a social drinker. If I am on a night out with my girlfriends, I like a glass of Prosecco, but it is all about moderation. I do usually have a drink on a night out, but I am not a big drinker... however, I do love cocktails.

Do you take any health supplements?

I have started to take multi-vitamins because of the hours I work and in case I am lacking nutrients. I can get run down.

How do you take time out?

I love to go out socialising with my girlfriends, but I also really enjoy a night in, too. I live by myself, so I value that time on my own so much. I love an early night during the week. Unwinding for me is about having a nice hot bath with a glass of wine or heading out with friends for a nice meal.

How well do you sleep?

Like an absolute log. It is very rare that I cannot sleep - I could sleep anywhere, which never used to be the case. Now, though, sleeping well is not an issue for me.

Do you worry about getting old?

I am 30 next year and I definitely don't have any worries about ageing. From a physical perspective, I don't worry too much. I am pretty comfortable with myself and where I am in my life now - and 30 is the new 20 - I am trying not to panic about it. When I was younger, I imagined that I would be married with children when I was 30, but that has not happened - I believe everything happens for a reason.

What is your go-to product/habit that keeps you feeling healthy?

I drink an awful lot of water, and I notice if I don't, I will feel lethargic and tired, so I like to ensure drinking water is my everyday healthy habit.
