Fashion Spy: We hit Belsonic for a good snoop at the latest trends

Our reporter Kerry McKittrick checks out the style at Belsonic in Belfast's Custom House Square and finds plenty of trendy people out and about.

Jade McMurtry (24), care assistant, Lisburn

Wore what? Dress, £14, blazer, £25, boots, £27, all New Look;  bag, £15, Primark.

Why? I like to keep up with trends and be outgoing in my choices.

Who? I think Ellie Goulding dresses really well, whereas Katie Price and her tracksuits are always a no-no.

  • Monthly spend £150

Joanne Glover (41), manager, Lisburn

Wore what? Jacket, £20, George at Asda; T-shirt, £25, Marks & Spencer; jeans, £30, Zara; shoes, £40, Warehouse; bag, £25, Mango.

Why? My style is smart-casual, so I wear a lot of jeans which I team with jackets. I find dresses uncomfortable, so I never wear them.

Who? Paloma Faith makes brave fashion choices and isn't afraid of colour, but someone like Kerry Katona never seems to get it right.

  • Monthly spend £100

Jenna Timmins (30), lab manager, Portadown

Wore what? Cardigan, £30, Firetrap; dress, George at Asda, £15; belt, £40, Ted Baker; sandals, £25, New Look.

Why? My style is vintage and eclectic.

Who? Marilyn Monroe is a real fashion icon, but I'm not loving Kim Kardashian's style at the moment, she's not dressing to suit her figure.

  • Monthly spend £100

Arlene Trainor (18), student, Belfast

Wore what? Shirt, £40, Warehouse; blazer, £50, boutique in Liverpool; jeans, £35, bag, £35, River Island; shoes, £20, Primark.

Why? My style is different, so I tend to go for more quirky items.

Who? I love Victoria Beckham's preppy style, she always looks wonderful. Jodie Kidd may be a tabloid favourite but she looks terrible with her barely-there outfits.

  • Monthly spend £300

Joy Hunter (47), business support, Lisburn

Wore what? Jacket, £50, Black Rivet; top, £40, Next; jeans, £70, Biba; boots, £50, Tamaris.

Why? While I shop on the high street, I do go for more quirky and individual pieces. I like to dress in an age-appropriate way, so I tend to avoid very casual clothes.

Who? She gets criticised, but I think Helena Bonham Carter has a great sense of style and looks really individual. Pop stars like Taylor Swift always seem to be in clothes which are too short or very low cut.

  • Monthly spend £200

Laureen Henderson (35) admin officer, Ballyclare

Wore what? Jacket, £140, bag, £20, Zara; jumper, £10, Primark; skirt, £20, Warehouse; boots, £45, River Island.

Why? I'm a bit of a rock chick, so I tend to wear all black with a splash of colour. I know culottes are big this season, but I think they look terrible.

Who? I love Gwen Stefani's look - she is a real trendsetter. Miley Cyrus just looks terrible these days.

  • Monthly spend £150

Shannon McMurtry (22), care assistant, Lisburn

Wore what? Jacket, £65, Topshop; dress, £10, shoes, £16, bag, £7, all Primark.

Why? I'm a big fan of boho style and the Seventies trend that is having a renaissance at the moment. I don't think I'll be wearing hot pants, though - they're too revealing.

Who? I like Rihanna's stand-out style. I not a fan of popstar Charlie XCX's fashion sense. She's trying to impress 13-year-olds, and it doesn't work.

  • Monthly spend £100
