Pam's People: We're shipshape for party on cruise liner

By Pamela Ballantine

We all like to have a nosey at how the other half live so when the invitation to hop on board a cruise liner that had docked in Belfast arrived I couldn't refuse.

While the international holiday makers disembarked the MSC Magnificent to savour the sights and sounds of Northern Ireland, I joined a few other guests to help American Holidays celebrate its cruise department's 11th birthday on board the luxury liner. Luckily there were no stowaways at the end of the day!

Bangor's Marine Court Hotel's new general manager Adrian McAleese has taken a step back in time by introducing afternoon teas like your granny might have served. Guests were serenaded by Peter Corry and bowled over when they were served delicacies on services that would have taken pride of place in family china cabinets, topped off with knitted tea cosies – who says nostalgia's a thing of the past?

Staying in North Down where award-winning hairdresser Sharon Malcolm, or Shazzy as everyone knows her, opened her salon in Newtownards in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Hair and Beauty Benevolent Fund. Instead of serving up stunning styles it was coffee on the menu for the morning which raised over £1,200.
