This class debate has finally been consigned to history

The subject of a talk on the radio was whether girls and boys should be educated together.

Did you ever hear the like of it?

If you think this is the kind of daft topic being discussed in these modern times on BBC Radio 1 or 2, you'd be wrong.

The subject of whether boys and girls should share a classroom was being debated way back in 1938.

I noticed it in a faded Radio Times for that year which I read recently.

The boy/girl controversy (if it was ever that) was aired in Children's Hour in January of that year.

I'd love to have been listening in.

Does anyone remember Children's Hour? It used to be on the old BBC Home Service every weekday afternoon from 5pm until the weather forecast at 5.55pm.
