Zep singer is a smooth operator
I couldn't believe my ears one night in March 1971, an hour before Led Zeppelin went on stage at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, when the band's star man, Robert Plant, asked the promoter Jim Aiken if he could find him an ironing board.
Somehow, Jim obliged, an ironing board was procured (Plant had his own electric iron) and the great man proceeded to smooth his stage outfit in the dressing room, explaining that he liked to look his best going before an audience.
So, I wonder if Robert will require an ironing board when he returns to the Ulster Hall 46 years later on Saturday, December 2. He will be aware that, sadly, Jim is no longer around to help him out.
Robert will be introducing the audience to his latest album, Carry Fire.
I remember that Zeppelin gig for another good reason: it was at the Ulster Hall on that famous night that the band gave the very first airing of their massive hit, Stairway To Heaven.
