Elaine Doherty (48) has suffered three cardiac arrests, needed six blood transfusions and now weighs below seven stone. She estimates that she has been admitted to hospital over 150 times.

The Derry mum-of-three has had her entire colon and part of her small intestine removed, and a stoma bag fitted, but still lives in constant pain and is sometimes housebound.
