Health and fitness: Small NI businesses gather for open day in aid of PIPS charity
A group of Northern Ireland-based health and fitness businesses have come together to host an open day, with a fundraiser for Northern Ireland's PIPS Charity.
Held at Phoenix Health and Fitness personal training studio in east Belfast, the event was organised by owner Alan Waterman who wanted to bring the local companies together to highlight what was available for those interested in improving her lifestyle.
"Opening my own studio in April was the first time I had the sense of being a completely independent business," Alan said.
"It made me more aware of the difficulties and challenges encountered, and gave me a higher degree of respect for the work and effort that goes in to sustaining a profitable small business.
"It also made me want to try to raise awareness of the fantastic products and services offered by other similar businesses within the local health and fitness industry, and to show people that they could deliver every bit as much as the bigger, more recognised brands."

Companies involved in the open day included NI Supplements, Sweet Robyn's Healthy Baking Company, Fitting Fitness, Goodness Rocks, Feed Me Company, Easy Eats, and Uni Learning.
Each business provided information on what they offered the local community, as well as samples of their work.
"I was happy with having had the opportunity to try to raise public awareness and profile of the businesses involved," added Alan. "And to hopefully have helped generate more customers for what are some fantastic, reliable brands.
"Running it as a fundraiser for PIPS Charity was something I was also incredibly keen to do, especially as I believe it's a very worthwhile cause."
Alan said he was keen to run similar events of its kind in the future with the aim of generating more public interest for small businesses within Northern Ireland's fitness industry.
