Me and my health: Former Miss GB Gemma Garrett on her lifestyle

Former Miss GB Gemma Garrett (37) from Belfast owns her own company Buella, an online shop that offers organic cruelty-free lifestyle products from around the world.

Q: Do you take regular exercise and if so, what?

A: I have two British bulldogs, so I'm walking every day anyway. But I try to get to the gym four times a week. I have a lot of personal trainer friends, so when I'm there I try to follow their advice on my own - but not go too crazy. I think 40 minutes to an hour four times a week is enough. I really have started getting into yoga - I think that is from getting a bit older. I find if you look after your mobility everything else follows.

Q: What is the worst illness you've had?

A: Bronchitis - and it was probably the most scary as it's all about your breathing. I've never been in hospital overnight, touch wood. At the time I had bronchitis I was partial to the odd cigarette - one or two, max five in a week, but that really scared me and it's something I just don't do anymore.

Q: How healthy is your diet?

A: I think it's healthy because I do like healthy foods. There's no way I'm an angel; especially over the Christmas period I really overindulged. I love chocolate, I love crisps and dips, but I think it's everything in moderation.

Q: Any bad habits?

A: If I am really honest, when I do drink it would probably be classed as binge drinking. I do it so little that when I do it, it's a big blow-out. Doctors would say it's better having one drink every night, so I want to look at that and not do it any more.

Q: Do you drink and smoke/if so how much?

A: I used to really enjoy glasses of wine every night. I think when I was starting the business it was more a stress relief, but I've completely hit that on the head. I try not to have any alcohol during the week. I like to go out at the weekend for a meal and have a drink, but I don't smoke at all.

Q: Do you take any supplements?

A: I take a supplement called Lumity which is probably the best supplement on the market at the moment. It's specifically for women and for their hormones. It comes in a soft gel capsule so everything that is in it is absorbed into the body. I swear by it.

Q: How do you take time out?

A: People have a perception of me that I really like to party, but that was mainly in my younger days. My favourite thing to do - and I hope to do it at the end of the month - is that I just go to accommodation in Fermanagh and bring along the dogs. I take my dogs down there, cook some healthy food and go for walks with the dogs.

Q: How well do you sleep?

A: My sleep is fantastic and I put that down to Lumity. I usually get eight hours sleep - I was always a good sleeper as a child. Everyone gets stressed, but nothing should be keeping you awake at night and I try to live by that.

Q: Do you worry about getting old?

A: I don't any more. It used to really trouble me, but I think it's a privilege to get old. We've had some tragic things happen in our family with young children, so I don't worry about getting old at all.

Q: What is your go-to product that keeps you feeling healthy?

A: It would be Lumity facial oil. I think when you have that on your skin, even if you are feeling really bad you put it on your skin and you feel great.
