A landmark listed former church in north Belfast has been carefully transformed into luxury apartments bursting with beautiful original architectural features.
The development known as The Chapel offers four unique high specification homes within the magnificent Gothic style 18th century former Church of Ireland building.
There are three two-bedroom and one one-bedroom apartment at the Donegall Park Gardens development with prices starting at £189,950 and rising to £269,950.
The church, which lay derelict for years and had been vandalised, stands tall again thanks to the developers who have painstakingly restored the external fabric.
The stunning sandstone building was designed for the third Marquis of Donegall as a memorial to his son Frederick Richard, the Earl of Belfast.
Frederick died while travelling through Europe in 1853 at the age of 25, and the chapel was finished 16 years later in 1869.
Ownership was transferred to the Church of Ireland in 1938, and regular Sunday services were held until 1965.
However, it fell into disuse and became a target for vandals.
In 1982, bodies of members of the Donegall family, who had been laid to rest in the vault, were disturbed.
It was finally bought by Alskea Developments.
The multi award-winning company has now sensitively transformed the interior of the building to create four unique turnkey homes.
In line with the Historic Environment Division and Conservation Architect specifications and approvals great pains were taken to restore the building to its original beauty.
This included refurbished and repointing it in lime mortar stone work with decorative internal brick finish. New slimline frameless windows have been set into the existing openings which are surrounded by highly decorative stone.
Inside the specification is second to none with herringbone flooring, underfloor heating and top notch kitchen and bathrooms.
Outside, the landscaped gardens can be enjoyed by all the owners who also have their own parking spaces.
Martin Brannigan, managing director of Alskea Ltd, said: "Following the successful sale of new homes in Donegall Park Gardens, we transformed The Chapel into four beautiful apartments that truly speak for themselves.
"With a focus on maintaining original features, we wanted to enhance what was already there whilst including a modern, sophisticated finish.
"Each apartment has its own unique individual features and characteristics; some include double or triple ceiling heights, original window frames, bell tower, viewing gallery and views right across Belfast and beyond."
Selling agents Simon Brien Residential said the developers had preserved the building to be enjoyed by future generations: "It is exceptional to see the rejuvenation of a landmark historic listed building to create an exclusive living environment.
