Potato plant flower

If you planted some early potatoes in March, you might soon be harvesting your crop. When you see the plant flower, this can be a sign that it’s time to dig up the buried golden treasure — but it’s also fine to leave them in the ground over summer until you’re ready to eat them.

Potatoes are one of the most popular and versatile food crops, creating miles of undulating fields on our farmlands. Their significance as a foodstuff is huge, but they are also a part of the rich and distinguished Solanaceae plant family that has spread throughout the world and that is full of fascinating, useful and unusual plants.
