Fashion fans keen to update the look in their home need look no further than their own wardrobes. This year’s hot interior décor styles take inspiration from this summer’s hot fashion trends with 2012’s statement prints proving to be extremely popular with homeowners.

Bright and vibrant floral and bold geometric prints were both seen at the 2012 catwalk shows, alongside clashing colours and pretty paisley patterns. Now these styles have made their way onto the high street and the world of interior design has taken to the trend too.

Whether it’s intricately detailed wallpaper or woodwork painted in a contrasting colour to the walls, homeowners are taking inspiration from the catwalk to bring their homes up-to-date with the latest trends.

Colour blocking was seen at the Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger shows. This season, homeowners are achieving this look by painting their rooms in two clashing colours. Meanwhile, the super-bold prints spotted at the Cynthia Rowley and Derek Lam shows have inspired eye-catching cushions that are sure to inject colour and personality into any room.

Orange and tangerine are also big news this year and those who aren’t keen on painting a whole room in such a bright colour can go for a retro orange vase or photo frame instead. Pink is another popular shade and it is very easy to adopt into a living room or bedroom. Pastel pink and funky fuschia are the two shades to go for – as seen at DKNY and Jenni Kayne.

Fashionistas are letting their personality shine through with their choices of furniture too - especially in the bedroom. Vintage fans who love the styles of times gone by have a wide choice of nostalgically themed beds and dressers to choose from. Ornate metal bed frames like the ones found at add a romantic feel to a room and they look stunning when teamed with the candelabras and chandeliers that are so popular at the moment.

The retro theme can be found influencing the shape of sofas and sofa beds too – with a wide variety of minimalistic designs that have a very Mad Men-style feel to them. Fans of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s are choosing sturdy new sofa beds which have that timeless look about them.

Adding a floral print or boldly patterned cushion is a simple way to combine personality with a chic yet vintage style with a modern twist according to this season’s latest trends.
