How young singers will set the tone for festive season

By Eddie McIlwaine

Little Jimmy Boyd was just 13 when he had a No 1 in the US charts with I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. It happened in 1952 with the ballad written by Tommie Connor.

I'm reminded of Jimmy today because a juvenile choir are about to entertain me just as he did all those years ago. Sullivan Upper School Junior Singers, made up of 35 10 year olds - of similar age to Jimmy when he started recording - will be guests of the King's Chorale at their concert in Fisherwick Presbyterian Church tonight at 7.30pm.

They will be joined by 17-year-old percussionist Cathryn Lynch who plays in the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra, Downshire Brass band and the Ulster Youth Orchestra.

She is a former NI young musician of the year.
