While others were partying around bonfires and welcoming in The Twelfth, one woman was bringing a little girl into the world.
Little Amber Porter was born at 5.17am on July 12, making the holiday an extra-special occasion for first-time mum, Julie (40).
Due on July 3, Amber was more than a week overdue when she made her holiday arrival with a full head of black hair.
Weighing in at 8lbs 2oz, baby Amber had quite a dramatic entrance to the world, as mum had to undergo an emergency caesarean section.
“It was fine until the end when I had to have an emergency Caesarean, but she’s here now so I’m happy,” said Julie. “Everything had gone so well up until then, but they said we needed to do it to keep everybody safe.
“They thought she was getting into distress and things weren’t progressing as quick as they should have been, unfortunately.
“Then things didn’t go great so then I had to get knocked out at the very end, too. It was very dramatic, but she’s worth it.”
Julie added: “She’s here now and everything’s okay.”
Amber is Julie’s first baby, with partner Robert Stewart, who has two children from a previous relationship.
His eldest, Emma (23), will be coming to stay at their Newtownards home to help out with the new arrival.
“Her big sister can’t wait to get her home,” said Julie. “She’s going to come and give us a hand.”
Julie, who is a support worker for adults with learning disabilities, said she is hoping to take her full nine months maternity leave.
“I didn’t know she was coming, I didn’t expect it, so I have to make the most of her now she’s here.”
