Just born: Cillian O'Neill - oh boy! what a surprise

A baby son was a welcome surprise for Shauna and Conor O'Neill from Lisburn. Cillian Sean O'Neill weighed 7lbs 12oz and measured 50cms when he was born at the Lagan Valley Hospital's midwife-led unit on January 2 at 5.46pm.

The couple had been expecting a girl as they already have a 17-month-old Erin Rose, and Conor also has a 13-year-old daughter, Victoria.

"We were absolutely in shock we had a boy," Shauna said.

"We assumed we were having a girl. It is lovely to have a boy.

"It's hard to tell at this stage but I think he looks like his daddy."

Victoria and Erin are enjoying having a new brother.

"They love him," Shauna said.

"Victoria is old enough to understand but Erin Rose keeps coming over and pointing at him and asking 'what's this?'."

Shauna praised the staff at Lagan Valley for the high standard of care they provided.

"They are amazing," she said.

"I could not commend them enough. It was like a wee home from home.

"They were brilliant, so supportive, and the individual care was great.

"The midwives are lovely. We got everything we needed. They were so attentive. We can't thank them enough."

The O'Neills' home has seen a steady number of visitors since Cillian made his big arrival.

"It has been flat-out," Shauna said.

"The house is coming down with blue balloons."
