Just Born: Daniel Collins

Baby boy is in safe hands with his big sisters

Janice and Chris Collins, from Lisburn, have welcomed a son into the world.

Daniel Collins weighed 7lbs 7oz and measured 50cms when he was born at the Lagan Valley Hopsital's midwife-led unit on January 14 at 12.12pm.

He is the Collins' first son and third child.

Janice, a customer service adviser, and Chris, an engineer, are thrilled with the new arrival – as are older sisters Zara (10) and eight-year-old Laura.

"I had everybody convinced it was a wee girl," Janice said. "Then the midwife handed me the baby, said 'have a wee look', and it was a boy.

"The girls are great with him. Zara wants to mother him and they are both always wanting to nurse him. They are taking lots to do with him."

Janice added: "Daniel is thriving. He's great.

"There's been no screaming from one feed to the next. He's feeding and sleeping well, so long may that continue."

And proud dad Chris is enjoying having another male in the house.

"He's looking for moral support," Janice said.

"It's been ballet, Girls' Brigade and pink everywhere for so long, so we are going all-out blue this time."

Janice said the staff at Lagan Valley were "fantastic" and providing excellent aftercare.

"Thanks to the staff for looking after us so well and for the brilliant aftercare support.

"Also to our friends and family for all the well-wishes."
