Just Born - little bundles of Christmas joy for Northern Ireland families

By Colin O'Carroll

It wasn’t just the birthday of the baby Jesus on Sunday — quite a few other families welcomed a new arrival.

Babies were born in hospitals right across Northern Ireland, with the Royal Victoria Maternity Unit expecting around seven little miracles.

The mums came from all over the country too, some giving birth for the first time, while others were old hands.

Whatever their circumstances, all were overjoyed to have their babies on such an important day — and all the children will have a birth date they will never forget and two reasons to get excited about December 25.

Bangor couple Peter Gilmore and Lauren Anderson welcomed their daughter Riley Ellen Gilmore who was born at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald, weighing in a a bouncing 8lb 6oz.

Carrickfergus mum Victoria Langley-Owens also delivered her baby boy Dylan Lewis Owens who gave her an early wake up call at 3.15am on Christmas morning.

He was a healthy 8lb 11oz.

Babies were also born at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine and Altnagelvin in Londonderry, making for a bumper crop of new Northern Ireland citizens on a very special day.

After all the excitement, it was time for both mums and dads, as well as their little bundles of joy, to get a well-earned rest.
