Just Born: Lucas Marshall

By Hannah Mark

Anna Marshall and her husband Paul arrived at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, eager to welcome their new baby to the world.

But little Lucas Marshall had other plans and it was only after an eight-hour labour that he finally made his long-awaited appearance.

Born at 7.23am on Friday, December 16, Lucas weighed in at a healthy 7lbs 8oz.

Proud mum Anna said: “It was not too bad — quicker than I expected.”

Anna (28), who works for Northern Ireland Water, was eager to take little Lucas home to meet the family and she left the Ulster the following day.

Proud dad Paul (31), who works as a civil servant, was at his wife's side throughout the birth.

Anna had been on the hospital’s maternity ward for observation since her waters broke on the Thursday.

The delighted first-time parents described the staff at the Ulster Hospital as “very good, very helpful” throughout their time there.

And Lucas has already been keeping his parents busy.

Anna added: “He keeps us on our toes — awake most of the night and sleeping all day, like most babies.”

Anna and Paul hope to give Lucas a little brother or sister in the next few years. In the meantime, they are looking forward to spending Christmas with their new baby son.
