Just born: Lucy Ava Neehan
A psychology student has deferred her studies for a year to take on a bigger project — motherhood.
Faye Loughery (18), from Limavady, gave birth on Tuesday night to a beautiful baby girl at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry.
Lucy Ava Neehan was born at 7.30pm after a long labour.
“I went into labour on Sunday evening, but they were just mild contractions,” Faye said.
“I was due to be induced on Tuesday, but went into hospital on Monday. They put me on a drip on Tuesday and she finally arrived on Tuesday night.”
Faye praised staff in the maternity unit for being very helpful.
“I’m glad to have that behind me,” said the tired mum. “I won’t be repeating that for a while.”
Faye’s boyfriend, Gareth Neehan (21), was with her through the labour.
“He was really pleased to have a girl,” she said.
“I had a feeling it was going to be a boy, but I was ecstatic that it was a girl.
“I have a place at Coleraine to study psychology.
“But I’ve deferred it until next year as I’m going to have my hands full.”
