A Co Down couple are just one short of a five-a-side football team after the birth of their fourth son.
Rory Gordon was born on September 6 at the Downe midwifery-led unit to Marie and John Gordon from Ardglass, Co Down.
Marie, who is a coronary care nurse at the Downe Hospital in Downpatrick, had nothing but praise for her midwife colleagues at the unit: “The care was outstanding, from the very first scan to the birth itself,” she said.
“I felt very confident in the midwives and was not daunted in the slightest. It was my first time giving birth in the unit.
“My eldest son was born in the old Downe maternity hospital eight years ago and the other two boys were born in the Royal (Victoria Hospital).
“It was much handier getting to the unit in Downpatrick.”
The family wasn’t disappointed at not having a girl this time, either.
“The boys don’t mind,” Marie added. “They are happy enough with what was sent.”
But Marie isn’t planning to have any more babies.
“That’s us now. There won’t be a five-a-side team, we’ll just be a four-a-side.”
