Just married: Brian and Karen Gunn

By Amanda Poole

Brian and Karen Gunn first met just over five years ago at The Spaniard pub in Belfast city centre. Karen (42), who works as a sales rep for a bridal gown company, was with a group of friends and got chatting at the bar to the 47-year-old civil servant.

“We just seemed to get on like a house on fire from the very first moment,” Karen said.

“And then three years ago I gave birth to our daughter Darah, which was a great moment for both of us.

“She has a wonderful little personality and is much loved by all of the family.”

Brian proposed to Karen in August 2010 over lunch at Deanes at Queen’s in Belfast, and in true romantic style, he got down on bended knee and popped the question.

The couple, from Belfast, decided on a winter wedding and set the date of December 4, 2011, to marry.

The service and reception was held at the The Old Inn in picturesque Crawfordsburn.

Karen said: “We loved the venue from the first moment that we walked in and saw their famous log fire burning in the front entrance.

“The venue overlooks the picturesque Crawfordsburn Country Park and their intimate Gallery Lounge was just perfect for us.

“I decided that my bridesmaids would be my daughters, Hannah and Rachel, and our flower girl would be our wonderful little daughter Darah.” Karen's stunning gown was custom made by the company she works for, Paloma Blanca Bridal, from her own design.

Celtic-themed music was provided at the service by Siobhan Flannigan from Music For Moments and Wynn James, who specialises in old swing classics, sang at the post-drinks reception.

“The whole day was simply magical,” Karen added.

“A really feelgood atmosphere with all of the guests enjoying every minute of it.

“The service was very romantic and intimate in beautiful surroundings.

“The meal was simply fantastic and the evening entertainment was by a fantastic all-girl group from Belfast called Big Spender And The Divas.

“All of our guests partied and danced the night away to crown off what was a wonderful day for both of us.”

The new Mr and Mrs Gunn then headed to Rome for a “fun and chilled-out honeymoon” which they say was the perfect ending to their big day.
