Just married: Nicola and David Patterson
Amutual fondness for badminton led to friendship and then love and marriage for Nicola and David Patterson.
Nicola (25), an accountant technician, and David (32), a teacher, both from Dromara, Co Down, met in September 2008 when they were helping out at the badminton club, which is part of Nicola’s church, Second Dromara Presbyterian.

They formed a friendship and then started to date in January 2009. “David contacted me on Facebook about suggestions for things to do at the weekend,” Nicola said.
“I gave him a whole pile of options, knowing he would ask me out.
“I didn't make it easy for him.”
They fell in love and then got engaged on September 30, 2011, at David's brother’s wedding in Edinburgh.
“After the meal, we went to the gardens and David got down on one knee,” Nicola said.
“He's a technology teacher and had made a ring for me.
“It was made from aluminium with our names engraved on it and the words ‘Together You and I’, which is a Dolly Parton song I really like. I didn't expect it at all and we only told David’s brother and his new wife at the end of the wedding.”
David got Nicola a new engagement ring and is going to clean up the old one, as it is one of her most treasured possessions.
The Pattersons’ wedding took place on October 31 at Second Dromara Presbyterian Church followed by a reception for 124 guests at Corick House, between Augher and Clogher in Co Tyrone.
“We had a great day,” Nicola said. “It went in really quick.
“It was all go all day from when we left the house, then it’s the speeches, meal and party and before you know it, it’s all over.”
The new Mr and Mrs Patterson headed to Lough Eske Castle in Co Donegal for a short honeymoon and are now looking forward to a trip to South Africa next year.
They are living in a mobile home at the moment while their home is being built, and are enjoying every moment of married life.
“Being married is great,” Nicola said.
