Just married: Paul and Edelle McGinn

By Amanda Poole

Paul and Edelle McGinn are thoroughly enjoying married life following their June wedding at the Culloden Estate and Spa.

Edelle (25), a corporate banker from the Antrim Road area of north Belfast, and Paul (28), a solicitor from Jordanstown, first met at the retail shop Next where they were both working as students in 2004.

They dated, fell in love and then on a trip to America in 2009, Paul popped the question to Edelle.

“It was a complete surprise to me,” Edelle said.

“It was August 14, 2009 and we were on Hyannis beach in Cape Cod.

“The proposal was very romantic.

“Paul got down on one knee at sunset with an engagement ring in his hand to ask me to marry him. It was perfect.”

Edelle then set about planning her dream wedding day.

The couple's relaxed civil ceremony took place at the Culloden, in front of family and friends, followed by a religious blessing and reception.

Belfast designer Mary Rose McGrath made Edelle's beautiful 50s style French silk wedding dress, with blush pink sash, that made her feel like a princess.

“Mary Rose also made my mum's dress,” Edelle said.

“She was so amazing to work with and I can honestly say I felt like a princess in my dress.

“My wedding dress is the most beautiful thing I have ever owned.

“It was paired with gunmetal Christian Louboutin heels and a baby veil.

“I also wore Tiffany platinum diamond studs together with a single stone diamond necklace, which my husband had bought for me years ago.”

A harpist played while Edelle walked down the aisle carrying a pink calla lily bouquet.

“I had the perfect day,” she said.

“The ceremony was beautiful. We had written our own vows and had two beautiful readings.

“Luckily, the rain stayed away for our photographs and the food was fantastic.

“Our first dance was to Richie Sambora's, In it for Love, and |my husband wrote a song for me and played it after dinner. I was a very lucky girl.”

After the wedding the new |Mr and Mrs McGinn headed back to America for their honeymoon and took in the sights of Boston, New York and Washington.

They are now back home and enjoying life together.

“I love being married,” Edelle said.

“We are so happy. It's great.”
