Just married: Robert and Jillian McFaul
Robert and Jillian McFaul enjoyed the fun, relaxing, bright and colourful wedding that they had both dreamed of.
Robert (25), a Christian Union staff worker from Londonderry, and Jillian (27), a speech and language therapist from Strabane, met in June 2010 in the coffee queue at a ministry conference in London.
Having clicked immediately, they added each other on Facebook, began emailing and finally got together for a date two months later, in August 2010.
Their feelings grew, they fell in love, and then became engaged in May 2011.
“Richard proposed at my favourite place in Castlerock — Mussenden Temple,” Jillian said.
“He had the ring already, so he was all set and got down on one knee.”
Jillian said ‘yes' and the wedding date was set for March 3.
The happy couple began to arrange their special day together.
Their service was held at Strabane Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception for 105 guests at Kee’s Hotel, Stranorlar, Co Donegal. Jillian and Robert made
their own wedding invitations and the decorations for the church.
Jillian's brother made the cup cakes and she said that everyone involved in their wedding worked together to give the day a |really personal touch and a special feel.
“We couldn't wait to get married,” Jillian said. “We wanted a really relaxed day that had a colourful, bright, happy and fun feel. It was a real celebration of the gift of marriage from God.
“The service was very informal and focused on why we wanted to get married.”
After the wedding celebrations, Mr and Mrs McFaul headed off on honeymoon to Gran Canaria, which had been arranged by Robert as a surprise for Jillian.
They’re home now, living together in Derry, and say they had a great time “chilling out” in the sunshine.
“The weather was lovely,” Jillian said. “We had a totally chilled-out time in the sun. It was great.”
She added: “We loved our wedding day. It's a special experience to have everyone you love in the same place having a party for the two of you. We love being married and would recommend it.”
