Just Married: Sarah Hamilton and Alistair Cardy - life's a beach for blissful newlyweds

It was a case of love at first sight for childhood sweethearts Sarah Hamilton and Alistair Cardy. PR consultant Sarah (24) from Holywood and Belfast man Alistair (25), a finance officer at Ulster Hockey, met at Stormont Estate in 2006 at the tender age of 16.

On May 27, 2013, following seven happy years together, Alistair got down on one knee to propose on Runkerry beach in Portballintrae, where they spend much of their free time.

The couple, now living in the Belmont area, were married on August 14 at St Philips and St James Parish Church in Holywood, followed by a reception at Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, Cultra. Their big day was an international affair with Alistair's team-mates from Cliftonville Hockey Club and guests from across the globe in attendance.

The close-knit family contributed their special talents to make the day unique, with the mother of the bride, a former professional florist, providing beautiful arrangements but also creating couture bridesmaid dresses.

A delectable three-tiered wedding cake was baked and decorated by the groom's parents.

Alistair and Sarah's first dance as Mr and Mr Cardy was to How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding.

"It was amazing to have all the people that we love surrounding us on our special day in such a beautiful setting," Sarah said. "We loved the party atmosphere, and appreciated everyone's special efforts to make our day perfect."

The newlyweds honeymooned in Morocco but are now home and enjoying this exciting new chapter in their life together.

"I'm thoroughly enjoying married life and it's great to finally be living together in our new home," Sarah said.

"We are now settling into our new routines, returning to work and for Alistair, ever the avid sportsman, the new hockey season is under way."
