Just married: Vet Disa and engineer Derryk make it from Edmonton to Belfast Castle
Disa and Derryk Boyd are enjoying married life in Canada following their wedding in Northern Ireland.
Veterinary surgeon Disa (29) is from Edmonton, Alberta, and Derryk (32) is a civil engineer is from Belfast.
They met in April 2009 in Glasgow when Derryk was working as a design and technology teacher and Disa was studying at the University of Glasgow.
After moving to Canada in 2012 they became engaged in March 2013 on the day they moved into a new home.
"Disa was kept busy by her family and I got the keys to the house early and set up the house with candles," Derryk said.
"There were five fortune cookies in which I had replaced the actual fortunes with custom messages and the final cookie had the engagement ring in it.
"We had friends and family coming round that night which was organised as a house-warming party and turned into an engagement party."
The couple married on August 14 at Belfast Castle and a reception followed at the Dunadry Hotel and Country Club.
"We had a wonderful day.
"My brother, David Boyd, who was the best man at the wedding, helped me organise a surprise horse and carriage for Disa to transport her and her father from their apartment to Belfast Castle which she really loved. We had a wonderful photographer, Stephen Hannah, who captured the day perfectly."
A second reception was held in Edmonton for Canadian family that couldn't make it to Belfast.
"About 20 guests made it over from Canada to Belfast," Derryk said.
"My family visited our home in Canada for the first time in September and we spent some time travelling and visited the Rockies.
"We went white water rafting and enjoyed some water sports during the Canadian summer. "
The Boyds are planning a honeymoon next winter when the temperature in Edmonton drops to -35C.
"We are enjoying married life," Derryk added.
