Porsche has given its Macan GTS a performance-focused revamp with a new engine and a range of external enhancements.
The facelifted model – it stands for Gran Turismo Sport - sits between the Macan S and the Turbo in the line-up of the mid-sized SUV model’s range.
The GTS gets a less powerful version of the powerplant used in the flagship Turbo model: a 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine with two turbochargers arranged in the inner V of the engine.
This unit outputs 380 PS and 520Nm of torque, delivered over a range from 1,750 to 5,000 rpm. This represents an increase of 20PS and 20 Nm over the outgoing model.
Combined with the newly adapted PDK dual-clutch transmission and the optional Sport Chrono package, the Macan GTS can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds, three tenths faster than before. It has a top speed of 261 km/h.
Without the Sport Chrono package, 0-62pmh is slightly lower at 4.9 seconds. Both versions have the same top speed figure of 162mph.
The official efficiency and emissions figures are 25mpg and 218g/km of CO2.
Porsche says the car also earns its GTS spurs because of its “outstanding driving dynamics”.
The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping control system has been specially tuned.
The chassis has also been lowered by 15 millimetres for greater lateral dynamics. Adaptive air suspension is optionally available with chassis lowering by a further 10 millimetres.
Owners get 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels as standard, and also large cast iron brakes (360 x 36 millimetres at the front, 330 x 22 millimetres at the rear).
As an option, deceleration can be further improved by means of the Porsche Surface Coated Brake with tungsten carbide coating or the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake.
The car has had a bit of a makeover on the outside as well. The standard Sport Design appearance sees front apron and front section characterised by black painted elements – a distinguishing feature of all Porsche GTS models.
The LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System and the three-dimensional rear lights with LED light bar are also darkened.
The LED headlights can be optionally ordered in black with PDLS Plus. Chassis lowering by 15 millimetres, the 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin-gloss black, the red brake calipers and the trim strips in high-gloss black also emphasise the high-performance appearance.
The colour black also sets accents at the rear: here, the diffuser and the tailpipes of the standard sports exhaust system are painted in this colour.
The cabin gets an upgrade, too, with Alcantara on the seat centre panels, the centre console armrests and door panels as well as brushed aluminium.
You can of course choose from a range of personalisation options including a special GTS leather upholstery in Carmine Red or Crayon with additional Alcantara features and colour accents, a Bose Surround Sound system and the new smartphone tray with inductive charging function.
Other options include adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, Park Assist including rear view camera and Surround View, a heated windscreen and ioniser.
The new Macan GTS is available to order now.
