NI hymn singers spreading Christmas cheer across US

By Eddie McIlwaine

An Irish Christmas opens on a tour across 15 cities in the USA tomorrow in Pensacola, Florida. It will take the form of a traditional carol service.

And behind it are hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty, the Ulster couple who are based in Nashville.

"The next best thing to not getting home for the season of goodwill is spreading a little happiness from Ireland across America," says Keith.

Among venues are the John F. Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, the Carnegie Hall, New York, the Broadmore Hall, Colorado Springs, and the Keybank Theatre in Cleveland.

Some of the carols sung by the Gettys and their choirs will be centuries old and others will be freshly written.

Keith has written a new arrangement for one of his favourites, In the Bleak Midwinter, which will be featured.
