Northern Woman fashion picks: 6 ‘Beast from the East’ online shopping finds

Northern Woman editor Catriona Doherty rounds up six online buys to update your wardrobe for spring

By Catriona Doherty

The ‘Best from the East’ meets ‘Storm Emma’ may put a halt to work or shopping plans – but never fear, there’s always online shopping.

Trends covered in the March issue of Northern Woman include the asymmetric hem, tailored dark denim, polka dots and texture; think feathers, fringing and ruffles. I had these trends in mind when browsing online.

Find 1: Monki Polka Dot Wrap Front Dress, ASOS, £35

This dress is so versatile – the blouson sleeves and midi-length add an element of conservatism that make it ideal for office wear, and it’s also a fab option for casual day trips. It would look great teamed with kitten heel ankle boots, slouch boots or brightly-coloured trainers.

Find 2: Tote bag, River Island, £45

Find 3: RI buckle belt, River Island, £16

Northern Woman showcased pastels in our February issue; one of the top looks for Spring/Summer 2018.

If you’re not yet ready to embrace baby blue or soft pink, then pastel accessories are the way to go for a simple and inexpensive way to update your style. The blue studded tassel side slouch tote bag is £45 and the light blue faux pearl RI buckle belt is £16 – both from River island.

Find 4: One shoulder cut-out bodysuit, Lavish Alice, £45

If you are like me, you may decide to wear ‘jeans and a nice top’ – but then find yourself lacking a suitably nice top.

Asymmetric cuts are bang on trend and I love this one shoulder cut-out bodysuit from Lavish Alice.

It costs £45 and would look gorgeous teamed with skinny jeans or culottes. The only small issue I have with Lavish Alice online is that you have to pay the cost of returning unwanted items.

Find 5: Gavali fitted tailored jacket £150, high waist trousers £110, AQAQ

Spring 2018 fashion season has arrived and with it comes the resurgence of dark denim.

Models walked in indigo dyed denim, signalling a move away from distressed denim and oversized jeans, towards a more tailored style.

This Gavali fitted tailored jacket £150 and high waist trousers £110 combo from AQAQ is a chic, fashion forward and extremely figure flattering suit, for those who are happy to pay the £260 price tag.

Find 6: Deep Waist Band Midi Dress, Warehouse, £42

Colour blocking is another huge look this season and this head-to-toe orange dress hits that trend on the head. This dress is quite figure-flattering as the panel nips you in at the waist, and the high neckline and pleats would enhance a small chest.

Beware - it’s not the most flattering look for apple-shaped ladies as the band would emphasise a rounded tummy.
