Michael Dunlop and Holly Gahan at the Action Medical Research Celebration of Motorsport in the Balmoral Conference Centre

One of my all-time favourites and heroes in the sphere of motorsport is former world rally champion Ari Vatanen and I was delighted to welcome him and many others to the annual Action Medical Research Celebration of Motorsport in the Balmoral Conference Centre.

As well as hearing about his former glories and near-death experiences, over £21,000 was raised for vital medical research.

As we know, Northern Ireland punches well above its weight when it comes to sporting talent and leading the way is my favourite Olympian Dame Mary Peters. She led a party of her Trust members and supporters to the star-studded SportsAid Ball in London to highlight the work of the Trust.

There is something rather civilised about supping tea and eating cakes while viewing beautiful fashions, which is what I did with a few other invited guests in the Culloden. Along with Hastings Hotels our hosts were American Airlines and British Airways and Boudoir Boutique from Dungannon.

Merry Christmas everyone.
