Boyfriend’s behaviour is so mixed

Northern Ireland's number one agony aunt Fiona answers your problems

Dear Fiona, My boyfriend is a complete contradiction because sometimes he loves me madly and then he abuses me physically.

Whenever I'm happy he seems determined to ruin it but whenever I'm depressed, he does his best to make me laugh and I really need him.

He looks after me at times but if I want to do anything for myself, he goes mental and criticises my efforts.

He calls me names whenever other men talk to me then says he's proud of how attractive I am. Please help me understand why we're so dysfunctional.

Dear E.H,

Aapparently he's your best friend and worst enemy combined. He's less inclined to be loving when you're emotionally strong but he rescues you when you're depressed and this indicates a co-dependent relationship.

Please seriously consider counselling to help increase your self-esteem.
