Chelsea ace Frank Lampard tells of tears after Christine Bleakley agreed to marriage
Frank Lampard has revealed how he wept as Christine Bleakley said “yes” to his marriage proposal.
Speaking for the first time about his engagement, the Chelsea midfielder, 33, said that while he’s never cried over a match — popping the question to 32-year-old County Down babe Christine had left him teary.
He told Sky 1’s A League of Their Own host James Corden: “I’m not really a crier.”
But when asked if he had shed a tear when he got down on one knee he admitted: “A little.”
And when James continued: “So, brimming up a bit?” Lamps said: “Yeah, I was a little bit dewy.”
With his stunning fiance Christine watching on from the audience, Frank also opened up about the day of the proposal, confirming he had made his agent fly to the US to deliver the ring so eagle-eyed
Christine wouldn’t spot it.
And he admitted he was racked with nerves on the day as he carried the £120,000 sparkler in his pocket for hours before summoning the courage to pop the question while on holiday in Los Angeles in June.
Since the pair announced their marriage plans, speculation has been rife about where they will tie the knot.
But speaking to Sunday Life earlier this year, Christine’s mum Mina denied reports her daughter had checked out Galgorm Manor in Ballymena as a possible venue, and said her big day would not be a showbiz wedding.
“She is not one to show off at all,” said Mina.
“She just likes to get on with her job and her life.
“She is from Northern Ireland and you know what we are like in Northern Ireland.
“So there would be nothing like a big Hello! or OK! magazine wedding or all that. Absolutely not.”
