Our stuff just keeps building up
Northern Ireland's number one agony aunt Fiona Hurley answers your problems
Dear Fiona, This seems a trivial problem but it’s starting to send me round the bend.
Our family — one husband, two kids, one cat, two dogs and a guinea pig — create such a huge amount of rubbish that however much I throw away, the mountain never diminishes.
Of course, I take stuff to charity shops but some of it ends up on the dump which is wasteful.
What can we do?
Fed-up Mum, Belfast
Dear Fed-up Mum,
If you have a computer, you should try Freegle (ilovefreegle.org), an initiative encouraging people to give things away by signing up online, listing what you have then distributing it to happy recipients.
A win-win situation.
There’s also recycling — Belfast City Council can give you details of your nearest centres.
