4 skiing destinations popular with Hollywood celebrities
This year, Northern Ireland had one of its best summers ever. So much so, we’d almost forgotten how much fun winter could be.
Now that it’s here, we think the best way to get through it is to embrace all things associated with the season and at the very top of the list is celebrity favourite, skiing.
From the breath-taking sights of snow-capped mountains to action-filled descents by ski or by sled, and from Après-ski tipples by the fireside to thrilling family snowball fights – it’s not surprising that the rich and famous can’t get enough of the slopes.
A firm favourite with Prince William and Kate, Meribel is dotted with just a handful of chalets and very few hotels – an ideal hideaway for those looking to replace the paparazzi with the piste.
It’s no secret that Switzerland is one of the best places in the world to ski. And Robbie Williams clearly got the memo. He sang at Ischgl’s season closing concert a couple of years ago but he comes to Zermatt for its 4,000m peaks and its picturesque village filled with gourmet restaurants and cosy, but chic chalets.
Well-documented as a playground for superstars, this resort is renowned for its exclusivity, not to mention some of the most expensive real estate in America. The Obamas, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé and Mel Gibson are all known to regularly touch down in this Colorado hideaway.
St. Moritz, Switzerland
This resort is known to welcome more than 40 private jets a day during peak season. Dubbed the ‘designer’ getaway for its selection of luxury shops, exclusive sporting events and sublime spas, St Moritz is known to have welcomed everyone from Tina Turner to George Clooney.
Rubbing shoulders with superstars might appeal to some, but it’s not for all of us and whilst there are ski resorts to suit all budgets, finding affordable gear to help you stay safe and warm on the slopes can be trickier. Never fear! Lidl has announced its 2018 winter and ski-wear collection will arrive to 38 stores across Northern Ireland from tomorrow.
Costing just a fraction of the price of the big brands loved by the celebs, but delivering all of the glamour, the 58-piece collection is functional and fashionable and suitable for ski slope climates across the world. Adult skiers can pick up the full kit of skiing essentials for under £60, while kids can get suited and snow-booted for even less. Snow joke!
Whilst we’re not jetting off to The Alps this winter, Craigavon’s dry ski slope offers a taste of the real-thing and with Belfast gearing up to launch its very own city centre slope this Christmas, it sounds like we might need to prepare ourselves to look the part.
Lidl’s winter and ski range will be available in stores from Thursday, November 8 for a limited period while stocks last. To see the full collection visit lidl-ni.co.uk
