Catriona McFeely as Cinderella in The Waterfront

With roots stretching back to the 16th century, pantomime may be silly and slapstick, but it is one of our oldest and best-loved theatrical artforms. For many children, it marks their first time being in a theatre experiencing live performance.

With theatres going dark last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic there were no cries of “It’s behind you” or “Oh not it isn’t, oh yes it is,” no slightly terrifying pantomime horses with their odd googly eyes and put upon back end, and no resplendently wigged, innuendo-laden dames.
