An example of forgiveness that should inspire all of us
This week, as we reflect on the anniversary of the beginning of the Troubles fifty years ago, it is hard not to be saddened and depressed by the suffering and loss on all sides during five terrible decades.
Yet there are also human stories of courage and nobility which speak to all of us. Such a story is that of the former RUC officer David Williamson.
He was badly injured several times and suffered great personal tragedy, but struggled on.
He refused to bow down to self pity, and with a deep faith in God, he experienced better times, and he now leads a small church.
His moving message of forgiveness for those who hurt him so badly, and his faith and hope, should be a great and continuing inspiration to the rest of us.
