Babysitting rules to be abolished

Strict rules on friends babysitting for each other are to be scrapped.

The Children's Minister Dawn Primarolo announced that unpaid childcare arrangements between friends will be exempt from Ofsted registration and inspection.

Last September two policewomen were told they were breaking the law by sharing the childcare of their daughters.

Under rules from 2006, people who babysit another person's child for more than two hours at a time should be registered.
