Body found in Belfast park

By Matthew McCreary

Police were today investigating the discovery of a body in a south Belfast park.

The body of the man was found shortly after 9am at Musgrave Park close to the Boucher Road. It is understood the body was found in bushes by passers-by.

Police said that investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

South Belfast MLA Carmel Hanna said the discovery was a tragedy in the week leading up to Christmas.

“It is sad for a family to lose a loved one, but especially for them to be found dead in a park. I can only hope that there was no foul play involved,” she said.

Local councillor Ruth Patterson said her thoughts were also with the family of the dead man.

“At this time of year it is particularly poignant that someone should be found dead in the grounds of a park,” she said.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: “Police in south Belfast are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was discovered in the grounds of Musgrave Park on the Boucher Road shortly after 9am this morning.”
