Book that will change your house

By Emily Moulton

The eager fans will already have one, but by the end of this week just about every household in the province should have their very own copy of a book which is set to revolutionise lounge rooms, kitchens and bedrooms throughout Ulster.

The Ikea catalogue has arrived just weeks ahead of the Swedish furniture factory's grand opening in Belfast next month.

Around 645,000 copies are expected to be delivered throughout Northern Ireland over the coming weeks in preparation for the opening.

The 29,000sq m store, which is the first to be built in Ireland, will be based at Holywood Exchange and is set to be one of the Swedish retailer's flagship stores.

It will stock a full range of products, totalling 9,500 items and will feature a first floor showroom where customers can view over 55 fully furnished room and home layouts.

Belfast store manager Paul Reid said the catalogue drop was designed to give the pubic a taste of what they can expect.

"Everything that is in the catalogue will be available in the new Ikea Belfast store.

"We hope the catalogue will also educate people who may not be familiar with Ikea," he added.

"We place a big emphasis on coupling with style, quality and cutting edge design with functionality and affordability."

Currently there are more than 191 million copies of the catalogue in circulation around the world,

Recently, Ikea attracted nearly 11,000 people to a recruitment weekend at nearby Esporta Health Club.

The IKEA Belfast store will open its doors at 10am on Thursday, December 13.
