China could learn from the Northern Ireland peace process

A new report from the European commission says that China could learn from Northern Ireland's experience in handling ethnic division.

The report also claims that lessons from local conflict resolution could be exported around the world, with countries such as Brazil and Russia also benefiting.

The taskforce was established by Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso last May to mark political power-sharing in Ulster and identify opportunities for economic growth.

The European Peace Programme was designed to reduce cross community tensions and promote cross-border cooperation and could now be used as the blueprint for other regions.

The Peace Programme initiative has poured millions of euros into the economy north and south of the border.
