Conil McCord (11) wows the crowds at Belfast's Waterfront Hall

This is the 11-year-old boy who was floating on air as he thrilled the Waterfront Hall in Belfast with his debut solo singing performance.

Looking — and sounding — like a seasoned professional, young Conil McCord belted out Lost in Space during the Ulster Orchestra’s gravity-defying Rain Falling Up show on Saturday evening.

Conil, from St Kieran’s Primary in Poleglass, hit all the right notes with the 1,500-strong audience, who heard the story of Jake, a young boy who has an insatiable curiosity for all things scientific, especially gravity.

After he is blamed for breaking his mum’s favourite vase he begins to think that gravity isn’t his friend; the world would be a better place without it. He makes a “gravity switch” which, to his astonishment, really works.

The show featured hundreds of singing primary school children, a narrator, fantastic animation and a small chorus of singers.
